Benitez, Chelsea’s INTERIM Manager had some insights into what he might be doing with the Chelsea squad to improve them.
On Torres:
There is some work in the gym, on his strength that maybe he needs to do again.
If you are wondering about his [Torres] past injuries affecting his pace, which was an influential factor in his hay days, then this is what RB had to say:
Torres had very real pace and it is not because he is getting old, or injuries – he has to train in a way that will maybe suit him and we will have find this way.
Benitez also said that he has been working on Torres – Oscar movements, more on the understanding between the two. This could mean Oscar could feature more in the #10 role behind the striker. I personally wanted to see Mata in #10 role and Oscar in a more deeper role.
Torres and Oscar do need to have a better understanding of each other. Lethal partnerships have players who can pass to each other with their eyes closed. They have a telepathic understanding. Oscar has been at Chelsea for only 3 months. It will naturally take some time to make them tick.
Roman Abramovich does NOT want Benitez to employ a Barcelona style.
He [RA] knows we don’t have Messi, Iniesta, Xavi – all these players together for years. So he knows that we have to adapt and try to play good football with the players that we have at the moment.
That makes sense. I’ve read that Roman is a fan of free flowing, attacking football. If his team can play ‘sexy football’ and win trophies, it would do. Barcelona have managed to do that and perhaps that is the reason why Roman has been said to favor the Barca style.
Benitez wants the team to play with freedom but wants the team to be organized. That should roughly translate into Valencia style. Attack and defend as a unit. Players will move together as one, be it attack or defend. If so, that would be a treat to watch. But it won’t happen in 7 months time.
‘We need to give the freedom to perform and play well but at the same time they have to be organised as a team.
Good news is, Roman recognizes the need to be patient.
We were talking for a few days and the owner knows it will take some time to fix everything, but he knows that we can do it.
Interesting points there to think about. Lets see how the team progress from here on. Be sure to keep an eye out on the tactics. I’ll be trying to figure out the differences between RDMs tactics and RBs.
